With one of the busiest travel times of the year and a new year approaching comes many new changes with the airlines. It may be new routes added, but more than ever, it is new fees added.
It is one of the reasons you should use a travel consultant or really read the fine prints if you book your own. We all know of most airlines now charging for checked bags and some for more leg room, but now fees are being increased for early check-in, (Southwest Airlines), no-show, over weight bags, etc. You are still allowed 2 bags free with them, but be sure to check the weight of those bags. American is adding more legroom on many of their planes, but you will have to pay for them. Also on several other carriers if you want that aisle or window seat, you will pay for it.
Again, be sure to read to read their guidelines carefully in order to avoid unnecessary surprises and by all means if you don't want to be bumped or have to pay for booking and no-show, get there on time. In most cases it is 2 hrs early for check in. Remember, nowadays you can usually check in 24 hrs ahead on your computer and get your boarding pass. If you don't do so, you may need to use a kiosk or stand in line. ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME FOR THAT, NOT TO MENTION GETTING THROUGH SECURITY AND TO YOUR BOARDING GATE. IF YOU DON'T, IT COULD COST YOU.
